You’ve Been Diagnosed with Scleroderma. What Do You Do Now?
Building Your Scleroderma Care Team
Your primary care doctor can review your symptoms and perform initial testing for scleroderma. Once a diagnosis is made, you may be referred to a rheumatologist. From there, your ongoing care may involve a team of specialists, including:
- General Internist, Family Medicine Doctor, or your Primary Care Provider: oversees your overall health and coordinates care
- Rheumatologist: treats rheumatic and autoimmune diseases
- Dermatologist: treats diseases of the skin, hair, and nails
- Gastroenterologist: treats diseases of the digestive system
- Orthopedist: treats bone and joint disorders
- Pulmonologist: a lung specialist
We encourage scleroderma patients to seek care at a specialized Treatment Center, where a team of specialists works together to provide coordinated, comprehensive care every step of the way.
