Doris was diagnosed with scleroderma at age 46 and was given only 2-5 years to live. Now, she’s 62 years old. “I thank God every day for blessing me to see my daughter grow up,” she says.
Scleroderma has presented Doris with intense difficulties: ulcers, hand surgeries, blood transfusions, intestinal complications, and needing portable oxygen to breathe. Her fingers are fused and no longer work, except for her thumbs. But through the care of her doctors and the support of her family, she’s endured it all.
“Having scleroderma has changed me forever,” Doris says, “but I thank God every day for another day so I might educate and help others through this horrible illness.” She also advocates for a cure and hosted a Facebook fundraiser that raised over $700 for the SRF. She says, “Even though I know they will not find a cure in my lifetime, I’m praying for the people who will get this terrible rare illness.” Doris, your amazing strength, generosity, and compassion are an inspiration to us all.
