Living with Scleroderma

Alexis’s Story

Raynaud’s can affect people with scleroderma of all ages, like 7-year-old Alexis.

Ever since their daughter Alexis was diagnosed with scleroderma at age 3, Meredith and Mike have learned a lot about helping her manage her symptoms––including those from Raynaud’s. Their go-to strategy? “Keeping her core warm, with a lifetime supply of sweatshirts,” says Meredith.

“We created kits for school that have gloves, hand warmers, and a sweatshirt that are labeled and have been placed in all the classrooms she would ever be in,” Meredith says. “So there is always easy access to something warm.”

They’ve also discovered body warming patches help Alexis. “They’re a favorite of hers,” says Meredith. “We have found if we keep her core really warm, it helps those fingers and toes stay nice and warm too!”
