On a warm Texas evening this February, friends, and family gathered to play casino games, bet on silent auction items, and win raffle prizes at the 12th Annual Bet on a Cure, an upbeat gathering to raise awareness and funds for scleroderma research. Three of the Kosmach siblings—Annette Kosmach Michaelsen, Joni Kosmach, and Sandy Ribich—flew in from around the US to join their sister, Diane Kosmach-Schumacher, and her family to produce the event. Happy to be gathered again after a year off due to Covid, they and their attendees raised almost $22,000. Since they began fundraising, they have raised almost half a million dollars for the SRF!
As longtime Cure Crew members, the Kosmach family are true scleroderma advocates and have held various types of events over the past 27 years. They came together to raise awareness of scleroderma and funds for research after losing their mother, Joan Kosmach, to scleroderma in 1995. “We hope that someday such events will not be necessary as there will be a cure,” says Annette, “Until that time, we will continue our efforts…”
We are very grateful to the entire Schumacher-Kosmach family’s commitment to the mission of SRF. If you are interested in joining our grassroots volunteer program, the Cure Crew, learn more at the link below.
