29 Years of “For Hope”: Remembering Bob Saget’s Landmark Film

Today, on the 29th anniversary of its release, we’re remembering late SRF Board Member Bob Saget’s landmark film, “For Hope.” Bob directed and executive produced this moving story which aired on ABC in 1996, gaining critical acclaim and changing how the world sees scleroderma. The film starred board member emeritus @danadelany and featured SRF founder Sharon Monsky.

“This film was inspired by my sister Gay who lost her life to scleroderma when she was only 47. It is incredibly painful to have a loved one experience a condition like this,” Bob said in 2021. “‘For Hope’ was an emotional film to make, but I know it still brings awareness to scleroderma and why we need research. There will be no improved treatment and there is no cure without the research.”

This movie put scleroderma on the map, bringing national attention to the disease and helping propel conversation about the need for research. Nearly three decades later, Bob’s heartfelt tribute continues to raise scleroderma awareness and move us closer toward a cure.

Join us today in sharing this film that meant so much to Bob.
