For Amy G., creating soft sculpture animals isn’t just an art form—it’s a way to connect and give back. Her whimsical collectible bears have found homes around the world, and in recent years, they have taken on an even deeper meaning: supporting scleroderma research.
Earlier this month, Amy held a special fundraiser to raffle off one of her unique creations, a hand-dyed mohair bear named Hope, raising funds for the Scleroderma Research Foundation (SRF).
“I became aware of the SRF through being an admirer of the comedic genius of Bob Saget,” Amy explains. During the pandemic, she found comfort in his podcast, Bob Saget’s Here for You.
“I was extremely touched by Bob’s commitment to raising awareness,” she recalls. Having also experienced personal loss from a rare condition, Amy felt a need to advocate for those affected by scleroderma.
Through fundraisers like her recent raffle and ongoing creative projects, Amy continues to honor Bob’s legacy while supporting the work of the SRF. “No amount raised is too small, and every effort helps spread more understanding of scleroderma,” she says.
