A new study published in Arthritis & Rheumatology, co-authored by SRF-funded investigators–Dr. Ji Soo Kim, Dr. Laura Hummers, Dr. Scott Zeger, and Dr. Ami Shah (all of Johns Hopkins University)–found that certain clinical features and autoantibody profiles may be linked to a higher risk of heart dysfunction in people with systemic sclerosis, while others were associated with better cardiac outcomes over time.
These findings offer important insight that may help doctors recognize risk earlier, guide monitoring and treatment, and ultimately improve outcomes for people living with scleroderma.
This recently published study is the latest example of how SRF-funded projects are advancing our understanding of the disease, with the goal of better treatments and ultimately, a cure.
