Last week, the Kosmach family and their local community came together for Bet on a Cure, continuing a cherished casino night tradition of supporting scleroderma research in memory of their mother, Joan Kosmach.
This year’s event took place on February 28 in Conroe, Texas, bringing together 85 supporters for an evening of casino games, raffles, auctions, and community. The event raised over $27,200 after expenses, and all proceeds went to support the SRF’s research programs.
“Each year we see new faces at Bet on a Cure, which means more people are learning about scleroderma and why this cause matters,” says Diane Kosmach Schumacher. “It’s encouraging to see our community come together to raise awareness and support research for a cure.”
Bet on a Cure is part of the Kosmach Cure Crew’s broader fundraising legacy honoring Joan, who passed away from complications of diffuse systemic scleroderma. Over the years, their efforts have taken many forms and since organizing their first fundraiser in 1995, the family has raised more than $600,000 for the SRF.
“When our mom was diagnosed with scleroderma, none of us had heard of the disease and there wasn’t much information available,” she says. “After she passed, we wanted to do something meaningful—raise awareness and help move research toward a cure.”
We are incredibly grateful to the Kosmach family for their more than three decades of commitment to scleroderma research. Interested in making a difference like the Kosmachs? Learn more about joining the Cure Crew at the link below.
